Beginning on July 1, 2018, pursuant to the following proviso in the General Appropriations Act:


Any Class 1 law enforcement officer who retired under the Police Officers Retirement System (PORS) on or before December 31, 2017, may return to employment with a public school district as a critical needs School Resource Officer without affecting the monthly retirement allowance that they are receiving from the Police Officers Retirement System. The Law Enforcement Training Council must develop guidelines and curriculum for these officers to be recertified and must not require recertification through basic training for those that have been inactive for a year or more.
